NATIVE EDGE IS…
Dedicated to the journey of creating the happiest, healthiest and most authentic version of you.
In a lot of ways, this is definitely not-your-average healthy living blog. We will talk about the standard stuff e.g. food & fitness (but in a non-standard way) AND focus on other super important stuff which, I find, is often forgotten. My overall philosophy is based on two core principals …
- YOU are the expert on you
To set things straight – I am plenty of things, but here are a few which I am definitely not: Doctor/Nutritionist/Dietician/Personal Trainer/Psychologist. In short, I have NO qualifications in health/wellness/fitness, unless you count a Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification (which I really wouldn’t).
And, I truly believe that it doesn’t matter.
The health and fitness industry is teeming with ‘experts’ asserting their view of the key to healthy living and, the majority of the time, they can’t seem to agree with each other. There are endless debates on vegan vs. paleo, cardio vs. weight-training or sugar vs. fat (and that is the tip of the iceberg).
So, who is right? Where can you get the answers?
In short – YOU.
You are the only constant in an ever-changing industry where there is a new diet, workout craze, superfood or ‘breakthrough’ discovery every other week. It makes sense to be an expert on what works for you, your body, your life, rather than chasing every new trend that comes along.
Plus, being your own expert gives you way more time to focus on the second principal…
- The living part of healthy living
I feel that somewhere down the line, healthy living became less about the actual living and more about abs, sports bras and superfoods.
Following far too many Nutella binges in my early twenties, I have spent the last couple of years focused on creating a lean, strong, sexy, healthy body. In that time I developed a love for the gym and nourishing myself with good food.
Having a perfect body is pretty meaningless if you don’t have your other shit together.
For me, what started as a pursuit of a tight ass and abs has led an increasing realisation that a healthy, lean body is a small piece of the puzzle.
Overall, I am less concerned about the health benefits of kale and more about how to create a delicious meal with it, in order to fuel what you really wanna do with your life, whether that be building a high-powered career, developing a long-term relationship, studying, spending time with your besties, exploring the world, or all/none of the above.
Sometimes, I will speak on some more ‘serious’ subjects, but life can be pretty damn serious. Likewise, there will be times where you may not agree with my point of view (You’ll see, I have no problem expressing my opinions). But that’s ok, friends don’t always agree and I love a good debate, so get involved and tell me what you think too – I am always looking to learn something new.
TL:DR – Sort through the shit and find what works for you. Embrace freedom, challenges and creating an awesome life on your terms (while rockin’ a healthy hottie body). If this is your kinda thing then stick around; you’ll like it here.
A girl on a constant mission to have her cake and eat it too. When I am not writing, you are likely to find me in pursuit of a new adventure, getting creative in the kitchen or on a sketchpad, stalking dogs at the park, toting barbells at the gym, practising yoga, or under a duvet drinking endless cups of tea.
