Sometimes, even when I am training regularly, making lots of good food choices, getting plenty of sleep and generally aiming to ensure that my body is tip-top, I can still get a lil belly-bloat creeping over the top of my jeans; making me feel like I’ve gained 5lbs in 5 mins.
And it kinda feels like the universe wants to kick you in the face.
Do any of you guys ever get this?
If you do, then hold on to your socks… I have something freaking awesome to knock them right off!
Side note: As a rule, I don’t believe in ‘magic pills’. Almost anything marketed as a quick-fix solution, is generally a packaged fantasy designed to sell a product. BUT, this is the exception.
The no-bulls**t, magical bloating cure…
Yes, charcoal – that black burnt stuff – is actually freaking amazing for eliminating bloat. I have been using it for 10 years whenever bloat has reared up and it never fails me.
So, how does it work?
Activated charcoal will bind to toxins such as heavy metals, poisons or chemicals and excess gas to quickly and effectively remove them from your body; not only does it eliminate bloat, it will detoxify your digestive tract and prevent any nasties being absorbed into your bloodstream and wreaking havoc in your body.
It essentially works like a big sponge, mopping up toxins to leave you feeling more energised and tighter in the mid-section within just a few hours.
ALSO, activated charcoal will bind with alcohol and can also be used to prevent a hangover, pop a couple after drinks and you will wake-up feeling far fresher!
Like I said. Magic pill.
The best bits?
It is all natural, super inexpensive AND works within a few hours.
I take it in the morning if I am going out in the evening or last thing at night to wake up with a super flat belly.
The particular brand I use is Bragg’s (not sponsored- just love), these are the best charcoal tablets I have tried in terms of results and ingredients!
Charcoal can be made from lots of different sources e.g. bamboo or wood. Braggs use purified coconut shells as their source of charcoal, which is a perfect natural source as it comes from food we already eat (<3 coconuts).
A couple of things to consider:
- Not all charcoal is created equal; ensure that you get medicinal-grade charcoal and definitely don’t try chowing down on left-over bonfire!
- Charcoal can also bind with some medications, so if you are on medication ensure that charcoal won’t interfere with what you are already taking
Otherwise, I highly recommend keeping a bottle of charcoal around, even if you are lucky enough to not suffer from an attack of the bloat-monster, the detox benefits alone are amazing and anything which can prevent the negative effects of a cheeky cocktail (or 3) is a must-have!
